Texas Home to Most Comprehensive Air Monitoring Systems in the Nation

MYTH: Fracking pumps dangerous toxins into the air people breath.

FACT: Texas has the most comprehensive air monitoring systems in the nation. Credible, peer-reviewed research of Texas air quality near oil and gas facilities found that oil and gas activity does not pose public health concerns. In fact, methane emissions from fracking facilities have dropped by more than 70 percent since 2011 according to the EPA.  Activists use inappropriate comparisons of air quality values in their claims.

Texas air monitoring network currently operates in the Barnett Shale area, it is very extensive as it includes seven monitors in six different locations that represent areas where the general public could potentially be exposed. Different types of monitors including a number of automated gas chromatographs are running continuously measuring more than 100 chemicals at each monitor.
