CPR – Methane Study: Fracking An Unlikely Culprit For N. Colorado Groundwater Contamination

Researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder found that hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “fracking” is not the source of methane found in groundwater supplies.

The majority of water sampled had concentrations at or below the limit set by the Colorado regulating agency. 18 percent of water wells sampled showed naturally occurring methane from coal seams in the ground. About 5 percent had methane related to oil and gas development.
