TXOGA Statement on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Proposed Approval for Texas for Class VI Permitting

AUSTIN – Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) President Todd Staples today issued this statement following the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announcement of its proposed approval for Texas’ request to administer permitting for Class VI underground injection wells in the state:

“TXOGA is thankful to President Trump, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and EPA Region 6 Administrator Scott Mason for their leadership and efforts to begin the approval process of Texas’ request to administer underground injection control (UIC) permitting under the Safe Drinking Water Act for Class VI wells in the state. The Texas Railroad Commission has proven its ability to safely protect groundwater in its regulatory role of permitting for other UIC programs.

Companies have been capturing, transporting, and safely storing carbon for decades, and this regulatory framework being implemented is essential to responsible growth. As the eighth largest economy in the world, Texas is well positioned to attract the investment and jobs that expanding this proven process will create.”
